I’m sitting at my computer, trying desperately to tweak KDE to look, well, human. I want it to look like the rest of my apps. So, I search Ubuntu brainstorm for this, getting me this one. It is getting thumbs down though. (Note to self: Research why people feel the need to vote down features that offer more flexibility…)
Right now, what bugs me is the looks of latest Google Earth. I’m told it uses QT 4.something. So even if I change the settings in kconfig, it doesn’t apply to GE. Right, I found this page, so I get Murrine through kconfig. But I can’t for the life of me find out how to do the same for KDE4 apps.
Point is, adding qt4 to the mix, now makes me go through at least 3 setting managers, of which I can’t be sure which does which. I have 2 computers, so that’s 6 settings managers for me…
On the desktop, users shouldn’t be forced to find out if they use version X of toolkit Y. This should all be styled in one app, with ease!
Usability, anyone?
What I’m looking for is a tool that links together KDE/QT3/4 and GTK styles that are similar. You run the tool, it sees that you use GDM, assumes Gnome, lets you set up all QT/KDE apps to look similar, and using the same fonts.
Expand the tool, call it DE-integrator, and commonly handle fonts, themes, i/o, notifications, etc.
Please someone, make this tool!
YES to DE-integrator, and for the love of god, it needs to cover wine too.

Yeah, of course! Wine also should be included, however that is supposed to be handled by Wine-doors.

Hehe… I just added that in the post, a couple of hours before your post 🙂
However, it doesn’t work with kde3

It’s not DE-integrator… It’s UniformUI and I wrote it recently. 🙂
It works with kde 3, kde 4, qt 3, qt 4.
